This Verre Églomisé collection is inspired by a re-interpretation of a traditional technique, using layers of textural reverse glass painting and manipulation of the copper leaf to translate a design into the material. Creating a selection of outcomes that can be are both as functional as mirrors or works of art that highlight a specialist skill .
An appreciation of the gilding process is revealed through a sensitivity of material, the considered coloured pairing of copper with charcoal grey and dusky blue tones results in an eyecatching aesthetic that accentuates the metallic strength of the copper. Using both water-gilding and acrylic-gilding processes to alter and create the design, the juxtaposition of controlled pattern alongside the distressed aesthetic is very successful and results in a refined highly decorative surface. The corruption of the gilt metal leaf through a scratched effect develops a pattern whilst remaining true to the original Verre Églomisé glass.
